Two children killed as building collapses in Lagos

The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) on Wednesday recovered the bodies of two children who died in a collapsed building at Ogudu area of state.

The incident occurred around 12:40 p.m. at No 46 Gafari Balogun street, Ogudu area during a heavy rainfall.

The Director-General of LASEMA, Femi Oke-Osanyintolu, said the the agency received a distress call about a collapsed building at the aforementioned location.

“On arrival at the scene by agency responders, it was observed that a building collapsed as a result of a mudslide at the rear of the building caused by heavy rainfall.

“The agents were informed that two children, one male and one female were trapped and immediately commenced a search and rescue operation.

“Unfortunately, they were found dead and their remains are being transported to the mortuary,” Mr Oke-Osanyintolu said.

Other occupants of the house were reportedly injured as a result of the collapse.

Mr Oke-Osanyintolu said the building has been cordoned off and integrity testing will be carried out on it.

Man commits suicide after losing boss' N150k to gambling in Bayelsa

An employee reportedly committed suicide in Bayelsa last week, after losing his boss' N150k to gambling in Bayelsa. The Nation reported that the deceased staked the money on a virtual game which lasts less than two minutes and is controlled by computers. The man who was identified simply as Suga used the money realized on the day of the incident to play the virtual game. An eyewitness said; “Suga, not knowing how to explain the situation to his boss, made him to take his own life.” This increases the number of people who have died from betting and gambling since last year in the state to three. Bayelsa police spokesperson Asinim Butswat said though the police is aware of the incident, it has not been reported officially. SARS operatives kill seven police officers in robbery attack

There was pandemonium in Bayelsa and Delta states following the killing of seven policemen in Ughelli, Delta State by Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) for allegedly being involved in armed robbery. The seven policemen were reportedly shot dead during a gun battle with the Delta State SARS operatives. According to The Nation, a police sergeant attached to the Bayelsa State command’s armoury was also arrested and transferred to police headquarters, Abuja for allegedly supplying guns to the police robbery suspects.
