COVID-19: FG gives reason more Nigerians will die, provides update on striking doctors

The Presidential Task Force, PTF, on COVID-19 has declared that there would be records of more coronavirus deaths in Nigeria.

The Minister of Health, Dr. Osagie Ehanire, spoke during the daily press briefing of the task force on Thursday.

He noted that as the number of cases keep increasing, more casualties should be expected.

As the number of cases increases, COVID-19 kills more people -Health Minister, Dr. Osagie Ehanire.

“The increasing number of positive cases means that the fatality rate will increase,” Ehanire said.

Speaking further, the Minister gave update on the striking resident doctors.

“Some doctors are working really hard; doing double shift,” Dr. Osagie Ehanire disclosed.

“I do believe and I’m sure they (resident doctors) would reconsider their actions.

“I had a brief meeting with the resident doctors today. They have some grievances they want us to address.”

Man commits suicide after losing boss' N150k to gambling in Bayelsa

An employee reportedly committed suicide in Bayelsa last week, after losing his boss' N150k to gambling in Bayelsa. The Nation reported that the deceased staked the money on a virtual game which lasts less than two minutes and is controlled by computers. The man who was identified simply as Suga used the money realized on the day of the incident to play the virtual game. An eyewitness said; “Suga, not knowing how to explain the situation to his boss, made him to take his own life.” This increases the number of people who have died from betting and gambling since last year in the state to three. Bayelsa police spokesperson Asinim Butswat said though the police is aware of the incident, it has not been reported officially. Butswat said; “The Divisional Police Officer of Bassambri Nembe said the incident was not reported officially to the police. He, however, said they heard about the incident." Source lindaikeji

SARS operatives kill seven police officers in robbery attack

There was pandemonium in Bayelsa and Delta states following the killing of seven policemen in Ughelli, Delta State by Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) for allegedly being involved in armed robbery. The seven policemen were reportedly shot dead during a gun battle with the Delta State SARS operatives. According to The Nation, a police sergeant attached to the Bayelsa State command’s armoury was also arrested and transferred to police headquarters, Abuja for allegedly supplying guns to the police robbery suspects. Though the Bayelsa State Command refused to make official statement on the development, sources within the police confirmed that the incident occurred at night on Wednesday last week.
