COVID-19: ‘Alimosho, Apapa, Ikeja top list of 20 LGAs responsible for 60% cases in Nigeria’

The Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 (PTF) has revealed that 60 per cent of the COVID-19 cases in the country were recorded in 20 local government areas

The Chairman of PTF and Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha revealed this while receiving a donation of Personal Protective Equipment (PPs) worth N10 million from Rotary District 9125.

Mustapha who was represented by the Permanent Secretary (General Services Office), Olusegun Adekunle, listed the local government areas as follows; Mainland, Abuja Municipal, Mushin, Eti-Osa, Tarauni, Katsina, Alimosho, Maiduguri, Kosofe, Dutse, Ikeja, Nassarawa, Oshodi/Isolo, Apapa, Amuwo Odofin, Oredo, Bauchi, Lagos Island, Surulere and Ado Odo/Ota.

He blamed the increased cases of coronavirus recorded in the country on poor compliance with health guidelines.

According to Mustapha: “We want to sensitise Nigerians on the dangers of this development. We urge Rotary to help us take the awareness further. The risk management team is available to share a strategy with the organisation.

“The ravaging effect of COVID-19 pandemic was there for everyone to see, including the impact on both governance and the economy.

Man commits suicide after losing boss' N150k to gambling in Bayelsa

An employee reportedly committed suicide in Bayelsa last week, after losing his boss' N150k to gambling in Bayelsa. The Nation reported that the deceased staked the money on a virtual game which lasts less than two minutes and is controlled by computers. The man who was identified simply as Suga used the money realized on the day of the incident to play the virtual game. An eyewitness said; “Suga, not knowing how to explain the situation to his boss, made him to take his own life.” This increases the number of people who have died from betting and gambling since last year in the state to three. Bayelsa police spokesperson Asinim Butswat said though the police is aware of the incident, it has not been reported officially. SARS operatives kill seven police officers in robbery attack

There was pandemonium in Bayelsa and Delta states following the killing of seven policemen in Ughelli, Delta State by Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) for allegedly being involved in armed robbery. The seven policemen were reportedly shot dead during a gun battle with the Delta State SARS operatives. According to The Nation, a police sergeant attached to the Bayelsa State command’s armoury was also arrested and transferred to police headquarters, Abuja for allegedly supplying guns to the police robbery suspects. Though the Bayelsa State Command refused to make official statement on the development, sources within the police confirmed that the incident occurred at night on Wednesday last week.
