The National Association of Resident Doctors of Nigeria on Monday commenced a nationwide strike after the expiration of a 14-day ultimatum.

NARD President, Dr Aliyu Sokomba, announced this while addressing a press conference on Monday in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory.

He stated that the union has decided to exempt its members working in various coronavirus (COVID-19) isolation and treatment centres across the country.

Dr Sokomba, however, stated that exemption of the members attending to COVID-19 patients was for two weeks before they join the industrial action.

Naira Marley’s concert: Court unseals Abuja mall

From Gbenga Omokhunu, Abuja Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Magistrate on Monday unsealed the Jabi Lake Mall after 10 days, ordering the facility’s management to publish an unreserved apology to the government through national dailies. The mall was sealed after a popular musician, Azeez Fashola, also known as Naira Marley, entertained fun-seekers in the area. The concert was in violation of Presidential Task Force’s ban on public gatherings as measures to curb the spread of COVID-19 pandemic Magistrate Idayat Akanni, who ordered that the mall should be immediately be re-opened, stated that she had perused the application filed by the defence counsel, Mr. Nnamdi Ekwem, praying the court to unseal the business premises. Sixteen elder statesmen and leaders of socio-cultural groups in the southern region of Nigeria, on Monday, dragged President Muhammadu Buhari before the Federal High Court in Abuja, alleging that most appointments since the inception of his administration in 2015 were in breach of the 1999 Constitution and the Federal Character Principle. The plaintiffs, led by Chief Edwin Clark, Chief Reuben Fasoranti, Dr John Nnia Nwodo, Dr Pogu Bittus, Chief Ayo Adebanjo, Alaowei Bozimo, Mrs Sarah Doketri, Chief Chukwuemeka Ezeife and Air Commodore Idongsit Nkanga, alleged that the Southern region had been deliberately marginalized by the President Buhari-led government.
