Schools Reopening: Executive Presents Proposed Guidelines To NASS

The federal government has submitted proposed guidelines for the reopening of schools across the country to the National Assembly. The Minister of State for Education, Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba made the presentation on Tuesday during a meeting with the Senate Committee on Basic and Secondary Education. According to the News Agency of Nigeria, he intimated the lawmakers of the ministry’s plans for students to resume across the country. The FG had in March shut schools across the Federation as part of measures to curb the spread of the novel coronavirus disease. The mall was sealed after a popular musician, Azeez Fashola, also known as Naira Marley, entertained fun-seekers in the area. Akeredolu sacks two aides attached to Deputy’s wife, others

Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State on Tuesday sacked two aides attached to Ajewole Ajayi, wife of his Deputy Governor, Agboola Ajayi. This was contained in a statement by Olusegun Ajiboye, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, and made available to newsmen in Akure. The affected aides are Omotunmise Tokunbo, Special Assistant to the Wife of the Deputy Governor; and Erifeyiwa Shola Akinnugba, photographer attached to Mrs. Ajayi. Four other aides of the deputy governor were also relieved of their appointments with immediate effect. They are Samuel Ogunmusi, Personal Assistant, Deputy Governor; Olomu Bayo, Special Assistant on Special Duties; Olawale Abolade Mukaila, Special Assistant, Photography; and Babatope Okeowo, Deputy Chief Press Secretary. Southern Leaders Slam N50bn Suit Against Buhari, Allege Marginalization Of Region

Sixteen elder statesmen and leaders of socio-cultural groups in the southern region of Nigeria, on Monday, dragged President Muhammadu Buhari before the Federal High Court in Abuja, alleging that most appointments since the inception of his administration in 2015 were in breach of the 1999 Constitution and the Federal Character Principle. The plaintiffs, led by Chief Edwin Clark, Chief Reuben Fasoranti, Dr John Nnia Nwodo, Dr Pogu Bittus, Chief Ayo Adebanjo, Alaowei Bozimo, Mrs Sarah Doketri, Chief Chukwuemeka Ezeife and Air Commodore Idongsit Nkanga, alleged that the Southern region had been deliberately marginalized by the President Buhari-led government. Another Five-year-old Boy Murdered In Ibadan

A five-year-old boy, identified as Mujeeb Tirrimisiyu, has been macheted to death by yet-to-be-identified persons on Monday in Akinyele Local Government Area of Oyo State. Saharareporters gathered that Mujeeb had gone to the back of the house in Tose area of Akinyele to relieve himself when the incident happened. It was gathered that he was hit with a shovel on the head by the assailants who later escaped into the bush. Mujeed's mother, who narrated how the incident occurred, said, “When the rain subsided, he told his older sibling that he wanted to go and defecate. Don’t Rely On Our Cut-off Point For Admission, JAMB Tells Candidates

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board has advised candidates jubilating for meeting its set benchmark for admission into tertiary institutions not to rely on the cut-off point.  JAMB said meeting its cut-off mark was not a guarantee for admission, explaining that there were other different factors for consideration for admission.  This was contained in a weekly news bulletin released on Monday by its Head of Media, Dr Fabian Benjamin. COVID-19: Nigerian govt gives updates on lockdown

The Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID-19 on Monday, said it would continue to monitor developments nationwide in order to take informed decisions by the end of June, on the second phase of the lockdown. Boss Mustapha, the chairman of PTF on COVID-19 and the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), said this at the daily press briefing on Monday in Abuja.
